Mineral Statistics of Assam
Introduction
Minerals are essential natural resources which play a vital role in the development of a State’s industrial as well as economic growth. It also helps in formulating plans and policy matters for the upliftment of the industrial growth of our state.
The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Assam publishes reports of Index of Industrial production covering mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors adopting 1993-94 as base year. The Index of Industrial production has been prepared on 1993-94 base covering only the registered factories. The Index of mineral production in Assam covers the major minerals only e.g. Coal, Petroleum and Natural Gas (utilized) which account for about 93 percent of net value of all minerals in Assam.
Sources of Data
The annual production data on Petroleum (Crude), Natural Gas, Coal and Limestone have been obtained from the sources given below.
1. Coal
(i) Coal India Limited, Margherita, Assam. (ii)Assam Mineral Development Corporation, Assam.iii) Indian Bureau of Mines, Nagpur.
2. Petroleum and Natural gas
(i) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Nazira, Assam.
(ii) Oil India Limited, Duliajan, Assam.
(iii) Indian Bureau of Mines, Nagpur.
3. Lime Stone
(i) Cement Corporation of India, Bokajan, Assam.
(ii) Vinay Cement Factory, Umrangsho, Assam.
(iii) NECEM, Umrangsho, Assam.
(iv) Indian Bureau of Mines, Nagpur
