Timely Reporting Scheme     

According to Assam Land Record Manuals the Lot Mandals are to undertake tours annually during the three main seasons (Spring, Autumn, Summer) and to record in their Chitha Books the area under different crops growing in each Season, land utilization particulars, crop wise area irrigated with source, information on double and multiple crop areas and submit village wise data to the Circle Officers. On the basis of these village wise data, the Circle Officers are to compile three abstracts viz. Area Abstract, Crop Abstract and Irrigation Abstract for the Circle as a whole and submit the same to the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Assam as per specific time schedule. But in practice due to various reasons these abstracts began to reach the Directorate of Economics & Statistics long after its due date. With a view to avoid this time lag in availability of Statistics relating to area and production of crops, Government of India had introduced the scheme of Timely Reporting of area and production of principal crops (TRS) to be implemented through the State Government since 1973-74.

The main objective of the Scheme is to obtain timely estimates of area under 13 principal crops as accurately as possible on the basis of 20% Sample villages in the plain districts at the end of each seasons viz.- Early Kharif, late Kharif, Rabi and Summer. Another objective of the scheme is to obtain production estimation of each crop at the end of the harvesting period.

Arecanut Coconut Fruits and Vegetable Survey

During the fifth plan period, the necessity of accurate statistics an area and production of Arecanut, Coconut, Fruits and Vegetables was feet for formulation of various agricultural development programmes. As such a sample survey for estimation of area and production of Arecanut and Coconut was started in Assam in the year 1958-59.In the year 1976-77,the scope of the survey was extended for estimation of yield rate and production of Arecanut and Coconut in addition to area enumeration of Arecanut, Coconut, Fruits and Vegetables.
Since then, the Sample Survey for estimation of area under Arecanut, coconut, fruits and vegetables and production of Arecanut & Coconut are being conducted annually.
The objections of the Survey are:

(I) To estimate the area under Arecanut, Coconut, fruits and vegetables in each district of      the state.
(II) To estimate the total no of Arecanut , Coconut & fruits trees in different districts of the state along with break up for bearing and non-bearing trees.
(III) To estimate the average yield per bearing trees and total production of Arecanut and Coconut for the agricultural year in respect of each district as well as for the state of Assam.
(IV) To collect same ancillary data for planning future surveys on the crops.
